Waste Officer (Temporary)

In this interesting and varied role, you will liaise with Council’s Customer Service team, our waste services contractor and residents to ensure customer enquiries and complaints are resolved efficiently and effectively. As part of your duties, you will conduct routine inspections in the field as part of investigating and closing customer enquiries. 

You will also assist the Team Leader and Senior Coordinator with the implementation of waste services at new developments to ensure compliance with waste contracts and service requirements. Your duties will also involve the preparation of information for reporting and statistics relating to contract compliance with service standards and similar measures. A knowledge of waste and recycling industry is preferred but not essential. 

Key requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, administration or similar, or have relevant experience
  • Understanding of Waste Management services provided by local Councils
  • Proven administration experience with excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Sound analytical and problem solving skills with ability to interpret and understand contracts and service agreements for the provision of Waste services
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively engage with the community, internal staff, external contractors and key internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player in the management and delivery of quality customer service
  • Sound level of computer literacy with experience using Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel and applications such as CRM Merit, databases and Tech 1

On a personal level, you will be self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment without direct supervision. You will also be able to use your initiative and experience to understand client issues and develop appropriate solutions. 

This is a Parental Leave replacement position and provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a growth area of local government.  Your commencing salary is negotiable depending on your experience and will be in the range $64,171 to $70,431 p.a. plus Superannuation.

Working Hours: 5 days per week 8:30 am to 4:45 pm with an RDO each 3rd week. Some flexibility exists in relation to actual hours worked depending on the applicant’s requirements and the business needs of the Waste section.
